What Does This Dinner Still Need? The Internet Can’t Agree!

What Does This Dinner Still Need? The Internet Can’t Agree!

It started with a simple question.

A home cook posted a photograph of their dinner online and asked:

“What does this meal still need?”

The plate looked delicious.

There was a golden roasted chicken in the center, surrounded by crispy potatoes, glazed carrots, green beans, and a generous serving of gravy.

It looked like the kind of dinner most families would happily sit down to.

But the internet immediately found something missing.

The problem was that nobody could agree on what it was.

“It Needs Something Fresh!”

One group of commenters insisted that the plate needed a fresh salad.

“Everything is brown and cooked,” one person wrote. “Add something crisp and fresh.”

Another suggested a simple cucumber and tomato salad with a light dressing.

A third person argued for coleslaw.

But that was only the beginning.

“Where Are the Dinner Rolls?”

Another group had a completely different opinion.

They didn't want vegetables.

They wanted bread.

“That's not a complete dinner without rolls,” someone declared.

Soon, the comments filled with suggestions for garlic bread, biscuits, homemade dinner rolls, and crusty sourdough.

One commenter even said:

“Give me the bread and I'll worry about the vegetables tomorrow.”

That comment received thousands of reactions.

Then Someone Mentioned Cheese

Just when the discussion seemed to be settling down, another suggestion appeared:

“It needs mac and cheese.”

The comment instantly divided everyone.

Some people thought mac and cheese would make the meal perfect.

Others argued that there was already enough food on the plate.

Then came suggestions for mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, stuffing, baked beans, cranberry sauce, and even a bowl of soup.

At this point, the original dinner had become a full-blown internet debate.

The Dessert Argument

Of course, no online food discussion would be complete without dessert.

Someone suggested apple pie.

Another demanded chocolate cake.

A third person said the only acceptable ending was homemade cookies.

But one commenter offered the simplest answer of all:

“It needs people around the table.”

That comment quickly became one of the most-liked responses.

So What Was Actually Missing?

The funny thing is that there may not have been anything missing at all.

The dinner already contained protein, vegetables, carbohydrates, and gravy.

It was filling, colorful, and clearly prepared with care.

The question had simply reminded everyone that food is personal.

What one person considers an essential side dish, another person may never eat.

For some families, dinner isn't complete without bread.

For others, it's salad.

Some want something spicy.

Others want extra gravy.

And there will always be someone who believes dessert should be served before the dishes are even cleared.

In the end, the photograph wasn't really about finding the “correct” answer.

It was about how food brings out memories, traditions, preferences, and opinions.

So, what does the dinner still need?
